CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The 15-mile Charleston Distance Run is spreading the wealth a little more this year.  "We've added third-place money in all the age groups and we're giving more for first and second place," Race Director Gary Smith said. "Last year, we gave $75 for first and $50 for second."

This year's breakdown is $150 for first, $100 for second and $50 for third.

"We want to support good local and regional runners," Smith said, "not just the pro runners."

The total purse for Saturday's 36th annual race is $15,000, up from $12,000 last year.
